Michi Wyss has built a fast-paced life as a successful management consultant in the city, far from the rural world he grew up in. But when he’s suddenly called back to his family’s farm, Neumatt, he finds himself caught between two worlds that couldn’t be more different.
As Michi tries to balance high-stakes corporate battles with the struggles of a family fighting to keep their farm alive, long-buried tensions and personal ambitions come to the surface. Every member of the Wyss family faces their own crossroads — between tradition and progress, loyalty and independence, truth and survival.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Swiss countryside, Neumatt is a powerful family drama about identity, ambition, and belonging — where the road home is never as simple as it seems.
About the creators
Under the direction of producer Jessica Hefti and producers Reto Schaerli and Lukas Hobi, the first season of the eight-part series was produced by Zurich-based Zodiac Pictures Ltd (“Die Göttliche Ordnung,” “Papa Moll,” “Gotthard”). Pietro Zuercher from French-speaking Switzerland (“Doppelleben,” “Station Horizon”) was behind the camera. Filming took place in two shooting blocks from August to December 2020 in the city of Zurich and the Zurich Oberland. The scripts, based on an idea by Petra Volpe (“The Divine Order”), were developed under the direction of showrunner Marianne Wendt (“Eden”, “The Ireland Crime”) in the writers’ room with the authors Christian Schiller, Dominik Locher, Ruth Rehmet and Piet Baumgartner. Julian Koechlin, Rachel Braunschweig, Sophie Hutter and Jérôme Humm play the main roles. Roeland Wiesnekker, Judith Hofmann, Immanuel Humm, Paul Kaiser and Marlise Fischer also appear.
